Trial and other legal notes (mostly undated) kept by Robert Rantoul, defense attorney in the famous "Bootmakers' Case," Commonwealth of Massachusetts vs. John Hunt, et al of 1840, in which the defendants, journeymen bootmakers, were accused of conspiracy in their attempt to form a labor union. Also included is the Grand Jury indictment of the same.
